The ACT Rural Fire Service will undertake a hazard reduction burn today, Saturday, 18 March 2017, in Tharwa.
The burn will begin at 11:30am on the corner of Smiths Road and Naas Road near the Namadji National Park Visitor Centre.
The 34-hecatre burn will target African lovegrass. Up to ten units will be on site throughout the burn.
Temporary smoke cover may occur in the areas around the burn location. Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
