Quick work by firefighters has prevented a kitchen fire spreading to other parts of a house in Holder.
Firefighters ACT Fire & Rescue was alerted to the incident in Foxall Place by a neighbour just before 1 o'clock this afternoon.
Fire crews arrived to find the fire had spread to the roof above the kitchen and extinguished it.
The fire is believed to have started after food was left cooking on the stove unattended.
Damage has been confined to the kitchen and roof directly above the stove area.
Firefighters are now ventilating smoke from the property.
ACT Fire & Rescue remind the community to ensure "you don't stop looking while you're cooking".
