The Territory and Municipal Services Directorate (TAMS) are undertaking hazard reduction burns this week.
A 15.6 hectare burn is being conducted today (Tuesday 26 April 2016) at Sulwood near the Mount Taylor Nature Reserve adjacent to Sulwood Drive, east of Tuggeranong Parkway and west of Athllon Drive.
Hazard reduction burns are scheduled to continue tomorrow (Wednesday 27 April 2016) with a 32 hectare burn on Wanniassa Hills east of Erindale Drive and south of Long Gully Road.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
The ACT Emergency Services Agency requests that people do not ring Emergency Triple Zero (000) for these fires but are urged to report any other new fires that they might identify that are unattended by firefighters.
