Storm and Flood Assistance
Four hazard reduction burns will be conducted across the ACT tomorrow (16 January 2016), weather permitting.
The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will conduct a hazard reduction burn in Jacka, adjacent to Roden Cutler Drive on the Elm Grove property.
12 volunteer personnel will conduct the burn with one heavy tanker, two medium tankers, one Compressed Air Foam Unit (CAFS) and a command vehicle.
The burn will be approximately 13.8 hectares in size and commence at around 9:30am.
The Territory and Municipal Services Directorate (TAMS) will also conduct three burns tomorrow.
A six hectare burn will occur near Shakespeare Crescent and Rogers Street in Fraser and two burns with a total of approximately 15 hectares in size at Cooleman Ridge Nature Reserve in Chapman.
Temporary smoke cover may occur in the areas around the burn locations. Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
