Smoke is expected to cover the city tomorrow as a result of two hazard reduction burns.
Weather permitting, the ACT Territory and Municipal Services Directorate (TAMS) will tomorrow, Tuesday March 18, 2014, conduct an eight hectare burn at Barry Drive, O'Connor and a six hectare burn at the AFP Training Ground, Majura.
These will be some of the last urban burns in Canberra this fire season.
The ACT Handy Map grid references for the burns are K11 for O'Connor and M11 for Majura.
Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
