Two teenage girls have been saved from drowning by an off duty firefighter this afternoon after falling into swollen floodwater in Gungahlin.
The girls got into trouble after falling into Yerrabi Pond at Amaroo.
The firefighter jumped into the water and retrieved them including one who was submerged under the surface.
He then performed CPR with assistance from ACT Policing officers.
ACT Ambulance Service crews arrived a short time later.
Both girls were stabilised by intensive care paramedics then transported to Calvery Hospital, one is a serious condition the other stable.
The ACT State Emergency Service remind the public to stay away from flooded drains or waterways during wet weather conditions and straight after them.
